A row of workers manually sort various recyclable materials into different bins as a conveyor moves them past. The first stage is an automated magnetic separator that removes steel materials before the workers remove the garbage and sort the plastic and glass. At the end of the line, an eddy-current separator automatically removes aluminum.
There are two separate streams...commingled and paper. This is for the commingled stuff. The paper gets sorted out in a different part of the building. If I remember correctly, it's most done manually to weed the corrugated and paperboard out of the higher-grade office paper.

It moves so fast - surely they would miss things?

Supposedly they take the pile of stuff that goes off the end of this conveyor and run it through once more so they get well over 95% of recycled material out.
