I spent some time with Dean Lucko in Longboat Key Florida, a beautiful beach is perfect for launching this type of craft. Dean and I had some time to go solo, so we had equal boat speeds and our take off times were comparable. These boats can get a long way apart and out of camera range. So you have to sheet in and let the sensor down right away. There is nothing like flying these boats in the right conditions. No other craft can match it for speed and maneuverability. Hobies Rule
No acrobatics required, it's sailed from a seated position in the central 'canoe' body, steered via two foot pedals.
It sails fine on a beam reach, as just as with any high performance multihull the apparent wind is always forward of the beam. It's only requirement is 12 knots of windspeed to get up on the foils.

how do these boats do on a beam reach? Wouldn't the windward sail shadow the leeward?
