Chicago Ghost Conference Intro video

Welcome to the First Annual Chicago Ghost Conference presented by Chicago Hauntings and the Chicago/Indiana Ghost Trackers! I am Mary Czerwinski, co-creator of the ghost story book "Voices from the Chicago Grave." To help you get the most out of the event, I'll be your tour guide, introducing you to some of the many fantastic individuals and organizations that have booths here. Here being the Congress Hotel, a haunted site in one of the most haunted cities in America.

To start, let's have an overview of the guest speakers present today:

A lead investigator and EVP specialist with Missouri Paranormal Research, Greg Myers is a leading advocate for haunted house disclosure laws for prospective property owners, tenants and lessees. In October 2006 Greg co-founded Paranormal Task Force, Inc., which educates and promotes the awareness of paranormal research as well as other historical and paranormal, related issues. He will be speaking on the Dangers of Paranormal Research.

I think everyone in this room wishes they had Elizabeth Rintoul as their high school English teacher. Not only does she place a importance on Ghostlore as an noteworthy aspect of literature, but she also leads summer fieldtrips to the dark corners of Chicago, Ireland, Scotland, France and Australia.

Artist Nate Larson will be on hand to discuss his photographic work. His pictures touch on religion, consumer behavior, and secular mythologies, ordinary days gone peculiar, and insignificant objects suddenly taking on extraordinary significance.

In author John Kachuba's latest book, he reverses the camera lens to spotlight us, rather than our topic. The title says it all: "Ghosthunters: On the Trail of Mediums, Dowsers, Spirit-Seekers and Other Investigators of America's Paranormal World." Us in this room are probably already familiar with his name as he is the author of the very popular "Haunted Heartland" series.

Like many in this field, Brian Leffler wasn't all that interested in the world of the paranormal until the world of the paranormal became interested in him. Once he moved into a haunted house, his research began. Now he is a touring speaking on the paranormal, the author of "Minnesota Ghosts," and a co-creator of one of the more popular ghost-related talk shows in the country, ShadowTalk Paranormal Radio.

J.B. and Lousia Rhine founded the world's first parapsychology laboratory at Duke University in the 1930s. Their daughter, Sally, will be joining us today to talk about psychic experiences and her book, "The Gift: The Extraordinary Experiences of Ordinary People." Sally had more than a little to draw from as the research laboratory bearing her family name is the world's largest collection of ESP experiences. According to a poll in 2001, half of Americans believe in ESP and Sally has collected true tales ranging from avoiding injuries and predicting the death of family members; to foreseeing the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the attacks on 9-11 to support these beliefs.

Mark Macy doesn't deal with searching -- he deals with communicating. In 1991 he immersed himself in the young field of Instrumental TransCommunication, or ITC, which is the use of electronic equipment to get information from the spirit world in the form of voices, images, and text. His latest book, "Miracles in the Storm," sheds more light on the world of ITC - personal letters planted mysteriously in computers by invisible hands, images from other realms flashing across TV screens, and actual phone calls from angels.
