@sonyab1974 Yes, she did. So did my grandmother, with whom we lived after mom separated from my father. I didn't know this 'til I had a baby who was teething, and my mom suggested I do the same thing. I hope you know that I not only turned down the idea, but royally BITCHED my mother out for doing such a thing!

As I said, absolutely appalling...

@flipt193 Yeah when I was a baby and was teething my mom used to put alcohol on my gums. Did your mom do that to you?

THAT WAS a great scene! But grandma making her young grand-daughter into an unwitting alcoholic is absolutely appalling!

You younger viewers may not know this, but putting a small amt. of alcohol into a baby's bottle was once an accepted practice! It helped them sleep. Mothers also used to rub whiskey or rum onto baby's gums when they were teething.

Thank heavens people (usually) know better these days!

That was a really nice scene between Finola & Martha Scott. First time they ever worked together rather then against eachother. But whatever their scenes were, they had great acting chemistry with eachother!
