He's "famous" because over the decades he's told and had his Sea Org exploits extolled and validated at group ceremonies. His photo and story is in one of the "High Winds" anniversary Sea Organization magazines. He's one of the first 100 or so Sea Org members, there aren't that many left, of the original ones. Most have quit. In forty years of Scientology he has apparently only taken one course. That's one reason he probably didn't want to talk about the bridge.
