@glorplaxy Depends. You will probably find that one particular size of drum is optimal for you to play at your very best. Like a pair of shoe that fits perfectly. If you are a larger person you may find a Sumbati easier to play than a smaller drum because it fits you better. Also keep in mind the sound you want to achieve as well.

@Threewinds Mid-East imports aluminum dohollas from Egypt. They are not the best quality drums, but they are not all that bad and work fine...and they are cheap. Look for "Alexandria Darbuka"...sometimes they list it as "doholla" but usually it is listed as just "large". They even have a "super"

Where did you buy the doholla? I am in California in the United States, and I have been having terrible luck trying to find one.
Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

I bought that particular doholla from a local importer named Tarek Sawires from Hyde and Clay. I now have a professional grade doholla but I put in a special order to Tarek.
From what I've read on tribe net I think the Nile Shop has standard size drums. They may also do a special doholla order for you.

Whats your opinion on gawharet el fan doumbeks?

I've only ever played 2 gawharet el fan doumbeks and they seems nice to me. But I've heard that quality can vary great so it's best to test one out at a shop before buying.
