No, people. The "sumpet" is because David is singing "Sound......" when Mozena is singing "trumpet". Blame purcell.

they sing sound the trumpet (when first sing "Trumpet" second begin "Sound"... and because it it sounds like "Sumpet" or "Strumpet" ;-)

so hard to sing! our choir had a hard time in the end :P

Thank you for reuniting me with one of the first pieces of Classical music I heard, so many moons ago, with Alfred Deller . . . and now this splendid recording. It is lovely music whether you hear strumpet or trumpet! Rejoice!
-
It is possible to sing this without the "sumpet", try the version of Andreas Scholl and Christophe Dumaux. They do it a bit slower and (sorry to the fans of daniels and kozena!) more precise.
-
can you send me the music?
-
a bit rushed
-
my absolute favorite part of this song is "to celebrate the glories of this day"....beautiful music
-
It has a quite fast tempo, faster than was written but still has a pleasent effect, Daniel's voice is very colourful and does take some getting used to but still a great performance =D
-
I've just heard this interpretation of this famous duet for the first time. But this was shure my last time! The voices just don't match together and the rythem is stupid and agressive. I just can't delete the version of michael chance and james bowman in me ear.

youi are an hypocrite.
1/ you removed your "opinion" so ti does not stand anymore.
2/ it was not only me, EVERYBODY here said you were just ignorant (cf all the other comments).
Stop diggin your hole and just go already... Unless you want to share more about how incredibly good and refined is a choir who mocked purcell for a whole session for no apparant reason (there, now your opinion stands again ! don't thank me).
-
you just removed all your comments because you can't justify your stupid opinion.
calling stephen hawking an idiot would be rude. you have said nothing that doesn't show you are stupid and just trying to attract attention on you (attention you want swiftly gone when you have to justify yourself, obviously, because you can't).
own up to what you said: you go not because i'm "rude" but because your opinion is unjusitifiable and you were clearly trolling. good you stopped now.
This is not the first recording where the first entrance is "Sound the Sumpet!" Was there a typo in the original score?

What I think your hearing is as the 1st voice says Trumpet, the 2nd voice comes in on the word Sound annuciating the s which then makes it sound as though the first singer is saying Sumpet..
