@donvaskwa very sorry for that... but one should still be careful with the terminology... the core axe is a mesolithic type of axe rather than a neolithic...
@erikjohansson546 your full of shit too! I have seen archeolists time and time again get things wrong like stringing bows backwards, using stiff short atlatl darts which is completely wrong, and now this. I would trust knappers who actually experiment and works with the rocks and tools physically more than you degree holding book nerds . put your books down and diploimas away and go get your hands dirty and see how things work in the real world.
Actually, I think the experiment is better done by an average joe cause when so-called experts make perfect tools, I think, 'gee I could never do that'. Our ancestors made stone tools for over 2 millions years and in some parts of the world, people still do. It's how humanity distinguished itself from apes : planning ahead. If you watch this guy, you can hears the gears turning in his head, trying to figure out how not to screw up. I think it's great!
we are six archaeologists from lund and the saxo institute. we are fully educated and have masters degrees. what you have done is what we call a waste product. there was no core axes during the neolithic period. you bring shame over the flint knapping profession!

That's interesting. Of course, it's like obsidian. I might have to try that some time, if I can ever save bottles from turning them in for deposit.
