This 1943 United Newsreel clip is one of the few reports of the Battle of Attu to reach the
American public.

This clip is included in the documentary, "Red White Black & Blue". "Red White Black & Blue" is the first feature-length documentary to tell the story of the Battle of Attu, one of the bloodiest battles of World War II and the only invasion of the United States since the War of 1812.

This film will premiere on PBS on Tuesday, November 6, 2007.

My father, Lee J. Bartoletti, was on Attu with 17th Inf. Reg., 7th ID. He suffered from frozen feet, which affected him the rest of his life. He passed away today, Christmas Eve. A great man, and always a proud Soldier.

My father was there and spent time in Hawaii as well (I think recuperating from shrapnel wounds) - his name was Andrew Pietruszka (Piet).

10 guys from this battle where put in my uncles unit in hawaii, on there way to the pacific island campaign
