On January 7, 2012, Manatee County's Artificial Crochet Coral Reef Exhibit will open at the Valentine House at Robinson Preserve. The reef has been created by more than 20 volunteers who have been working for a year to make over 100 pieces of coral and sea creatures.

Manatee County has a thriving reef system and an active artificial reef construction program and on January 7 you can learn more about these programs, and reefs and the creatures they support, during the special "Meet the Reef" Festival. We're celebrating the opening of the exhibit from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. with fun family-oriented activities. Meet a mermaid, dance with an octopus, build and fly underwater robots, marvel at marine life exhibits, get your face painted and chat with scientists during this FREE event.

Thanks to our sponsors: Manatee County Natural Resources Department, MarineTech, Coastal Planning and Engineering, Sea Grant, Kajal, Misha, Claire Miller, and the group of incredible volunteers who have supported this program from day one!
