CoreNet Global's REmmy's Recognize OutstandingL And Best Practices In Corporate Real Estate
In order to honor and recognize outstanding leadership and best practices in corporate real estate, the Southern California Chapter of CoreNet Global presented the 2011 REmmy Awards and Charity Gala at the Beverly Hills Hotel on November 17th. CoreNet Global welcomed over 400 corporate end-users, brokers, architects, and executives from related real estate firms to enjoy a high profile silent auction and business networking dinner. Alongside the auction and dinner, three individual awards were given to a corporate real estate team awards, Hoag Hospital Irvine was recognized for demonstrating leadership and innovation, The Frontier Project Foundation was recognized as the corporate citizen of the year, and Glumac Irvine Office was recognized the project team whose collaboration and vision has raised the bar in Southern California in the creation of an innovative workplace.
The proceeds from the event, silent auction along with a $35,000 check went to benefit Junior Achievement of Southern California—a nonprofit organization working to empower American youth with an entrepreneurial spirit, and a solid understanding of how to successfully generate and manage capital.
President of CoreNet Global, Jo-E Immel acknowledged that the 2011 REmmy Awards are "really about honoring the people in our industry and giving back to the corporate real estate community." However, recognizing corporate real estate achievements was only one aspect that made CoreNet's charity gala an invaluable experience. Given the diverse group of attendees, the 2011 REmmy Awards offered many networking opportunities to individuals and groups who might not otherwise gain exposure and connect with influential members of the community. Gary Hickman, President and CEO of Junior Achievement of Southern California claimed "an evening like tonight is so important on so many levels, because not only are we getting financial support for our programs to help us achieve our mission, but we're also introducing Junior Achievement to a lot of people...people that are involved in an organization like CoreNet are very important, they're the backbone of our community." Events like the REmmy Awards are vital to the success of nonprofit organizations. Hickman went on to explain that Junior Achievement "does not take government or federal money...so if it weren't for the private sector doing things like this, we wouldn't be getting as much support as we really need."
Junior Achievement's involvement and benefit accrued from CoreNet Global's REmmy Awards makes sense in that the nonprofit arguably represents the most clear and solid example of an organization dedicated to preparing young people to fill the positions of many of the evening's professional attendees. Junior Achievement focuses on teaching youth about adult financial responsibilities, as well as how to tackle the private sector head-on by encouraging them to participate in their own small businesses. Maynard Brown, the lead faculty member for the Business and Entrepreneurship Academy at Crenshaw High School, spoke about his firsthand experience working with the nonprofit. "[Junior Achievement] brings the kinds of values, decision-making tools, and curriculum that provides these kids with the tools they'll need to make the kind of financial decisions that will keep our country out of the economic mess that we've been in for the last four or five years." Thus Junior Achievement not only benefits the children directly involved in their programs, but also represents a positive step for the future national economy. Brown went on to conclude that Junior Achievement's lessons are "the way forward in terms of how education is delivered and should be delivered in the 21st century."
It is this discrepancy that Junior Achievement President and CEO Gary Hickman hopes to target. "Junior Achievement teaches you what you don't learn in school, things you really need. Like how to balance a family budget, how to get a job and keep it; all of the real life skills that just aren't being taught to young people today." John Cushman, CEO of Cushman and Wakefield commended Junior Achievement for their dedication and success: "I'm a big believer in the entrepreneurial spirit, the free enterprise system, and what Junior Achievement does for young people in giving them the tools to be able to maneuver through life as it relates to starting up and understanding business." By not only including, but benefiting Junior Achievement in the 2011 REmmy Awards, CoreNet Global drastically boosted the efficiency of the nonprofit's mission "to spark a new enthusiasm for free enterprise and starting a small business."
