Also thought the music (how much was Elton John's?) was, by the standards of Broadway, quite mediocre. This was very surprising.

Saw BE today (in NYC). Great actors all, but much, much too long;
Paper-thin black/white characterizations (police bad, miners good, Thatcher Evil).
Would have stayed for Act II had there been a Script Doctor in the house.

I'm sure Stephen Hanna (who plays Older Billy in the show) was one of them. I don't know about the others.
It was a shame the sound was off through the whole show... it was just terrible in virtually every number. I guess the people who cracked the jokes about the importance of the Best Sound Design Award aren't laughing now!
Btw, Trent was amazing, especially in "The Angry Dance". All three Billy's deserved their shared Best Actor Tony!

shame about the sound issues at the beginning but this is beautiful, these boys are talented
