@Malthizar No they can't, they are only supposed to shoot if absolutely necessarily and they can get in trouble for unwarranted shooting or police brutality. Batman fears that if he kills Joker he will be tempted to kill others, even if they don't deserve it. Then he becomes a villain. Ever thought of that. Lockup is an example of a vigilante who kills and maims villains even for the most minor things, and he is a villain. Batman doesn't want to be like that.

@Babsobabs383 That's not what happens at all. If you actually read the Bible, it states that although killing is a major sin, it can be repented. Meaning if you kill someone but then repent and never do it again you'll be fine. The reason Batman doesn't kill is for the exact same reason he stated. He doesn't kill the Joker because he knows he will be tempted to deal with every criminal he faces in that same way, even if they don't deserve to die. Going to hell has nothing to do with it.

@MrIHunter1 That's not the point. No matter how many people Batman saves, which proportionately isn't a lot, by allowing the Joker to live he will always have in effect caused at least one person to die. By killing the Joker and ending it there, it sends a message to all the criminals that Batman may not just stop at locking them away and it might actually cause Gotham to actually start cleaning itself up.

Also a cop can literally do what you just said so your point is invalid lol
