Barefoot Workshops produced and ran a 2 week Public Service Announcement Media Workshop in Kuwait in Nov/Dec of 2007. This 2 week workshop was funded by the US Middle East Partnership Initiative.
The PSA by Ms. Hadeed from Kuwait Society For Human Rights casts a light on the injustices against the large stateless population in Kuwait, otherwise known as 'bedoon' or 'withouts'- in referal to nationality. Please click on the following website to get a fair understanding of the plight of stateless people in Kuwait :

Your Kuwaiti and you have no idea what your talking about. There are some bedoun from Iran that came to Kuwait and said that they are Kuwaitis and there are bedoun that are more Arab than you! La tikalam 3an shay mat 3arf 3ana.

Kuwait is country of 60 years old. People living in what is now Kuwait, didn't all sign up for citizenship or papers at the formation of the modern state. since the country was formed, it made it harder for those people to claim papers. Bedon are from Kuwait. The government just closed the door to its own people to obtain their papers from long ago. And now this problem remains. Learn about history/facts, and don't fall into government propaganda.

what are they asking for ? They have given away their original passports their nationalities and left their land and they clame to be Kuwaitis ? Did they come out of thin air ? am I going to accept anyone who gives away his nationality and clame to be from my country ? It is not acceptable at all

the bedoon were nomadic arabs or Bedwins who didnt really pick a homeland because they moved during seasonal times... like in the winter there in arabia and the gulf area but in the spring and summer they live in syria and those areas. But when nationlism accord in the last century they werent allowed to travel as they used to.. thats why they had to settle some place and some of them settled in times where time to get a citizen ship was over

The report on the Refugees International website addresses the question of the origins of the Bidun and why they have no papers.

Actually, I did read the site, it does not adress the issue of the origin of those bidoons. So the questions is still unanswered even though it is commonly known that these bidoons are Iraqi, Syrian,Iranian, Yemeni and Saudi Arabian migrants who conveniently misplaced their papers and are now claiming Kuwaiti citizenship.

Aywa Amwaaj! Badda3tay wallah! It's very dramatic. Clearly many people need to be educated about this issue and this is a great step in that direction. Good job!

How can you be stateless ? Did you misplace your passport ? Did you just appear out of thin air ? Did you grow from spores just like mushrooms ? I don't get it ?
