One of the trickiest songs in the pop music library, Seven Days is the wonderful drumming creation of Vinnie Colaiuta, one of the world's greatest technical drummers. Nothing is straight ahead in this song and it is a great mental and physical challenge, especially if some of the licks he plays on live versions are attempted. In 5/4, it contains polyrhythms, odd circular patterns and smooth transitions. This is a great practice piece for any drummer.

It is critical that every drummer develop their own unique style and interpretation. Therefore, I do not memorize any song exactly. I have spent 30 years playing drums and have developed my own style, which I prefer. I keep my playing within the framework of the song and will play a part exact if that part is either iconic (like Phil Collins’ “In The Air Tonight”) or critical to the success of the song.

Thank you for watching and lots of success drumming!!

  • awesome, man!

  • @ThePlasticFish1 Fuck that

  • I thought that this was a song from Bullet For My Valentine :D

  • To Nemesais & 101Zorker: Wow, sorry if my post did not come across well. As I said, I think the cover playing is outstanding and that this could pass for any great player including Vinnie. The audio on the videos on youtube is not always the best so I'm sure in his actual mix, it sounded unreal. I simply made some suggestions that have helped my playing especially on difficult songs like this. Did you read "great ,great work"....what part of that did you guys not get. It is a fantastic job. OK!

  • @Golfforme Bro... 30+ years of drumming... I don't know who you are, but if you are gonna give advice to someone as pro as this, who probably has been playing for longer than you've been able to talk, you'd better have something to back it the hell up with, if not: then you can suck his sweaty nut sack.

  • @Golfforme Try uploading a video or two of your drumming, cool? Because until you do, nobody gives a fuck what you think. :)

  • Do you have a CD or MP3 with A to B repeat? If not get one, now! You can loop any sections of the song and play them over and over especially the transitions. For the haters out there, with proper mixing and miking this cover could pass for any top notch drummer on the market. You captured all the essence of the drum groove throughout. Great great work. Do try to watch DVDs of the greats to see how relaxed they are. Make sure you are aware of your breathing tendencies while playing. Relax, relax
