California Freeway Rant by Alfred Hernandez

"California Freeway Rant 2009", It's basically a verbal and visual rant, like the inner voice of someone who feels his soul is lost and disconnected from the land at 75 miles per hour. I have shot a lot of Super 8mm film of the freeways from SF bay area to LA in glorious black and white and have wanted to do something with it. I'm tapping into being honest with this discontent voice within me that feels hopeless about the technological work and the roadkill left behind in its wake. I'm letting that cynical angst air out a bit. I see it as sort of a Beat film, as in beatniks and Alan Ginsberg's "HOWL" shot on the road (s) of San Francisco, emeryville, alta dena, pasadena, Interstate 5, santa cruz, oakland.
