Stuart Rabinowitz, President of Hofstra University, speaks at the press conference to announce that the Board of Trustees has voted unanimously to eliminate the intercollegiate football program in order to redirect those resources toward academic initiatives and need-based scholarships.
Very much agreed with this decision. I started grad school just this semester and I was very impressed with the academics. But wow for the President to care that much about work and less about a failing sports club, not many administrations have the "balls" to do that, my experience at this institution is just getting better and better.

Very wise decision. It's better to divert those funds towards academic scholarships and improving other infrastructure.

Hats off to Hofstra.

speaking as someone from the south, who attended and visited major SEC and state schools there, its nice to see that football isn't the top priority for at least one major school in other parts of the country.
you could give 500 students 4 year full ride scholarships with the money earned at one SEC football game.

Well done Hofstra.
When my daughter comes of age, I will be sure that she takes a long look at a University that puts academics as its highest priority.
