This is a Dharani. It is not a Mantra. Despite misname of "Compassion Mantra". The intention of Dharani is to increase your self-power by Calling on the Avalokiteshvara Principle to manifest in yourself. It is Other-power on the surface to promote humility, but it is Self-power in intention. It is to increase your Compassion & Wisdom just like Avalokiteshvara. You honor the Bodhisattva to become it. To help other people in confidence, power, without hesitation, like Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva.
