In July 2006 I went to Thailand to do fieldwork research on traditional Thai music, pi phat ensembles and the wai khru ritual, which developed into a 4-part documentary.

Khaek Bora Thet was played by the students of the Khok Makharon Thai Classical Music Club at the Wat Jom Prasat during the Khao Phansa Festival (monks ordination ceremony). This temple is located in the village of Nang Rong (North-East Thailand or Isan), very close to the angkorian ruins of Prasat Panom Rung.

This is not a ritual piece. "Khaek" means "indian" and it refers to the "foreign" idiom used in this secular work.
