This is like a huge price increase (nearly $1700 at least in the US) over the EX1 for rearranging a few buttons and adding the EX3 viewfinder.
Ergonomically, the EX3 looks much better. The EX1 1.11 firmware update already allows recording on standard Express34 cards using cheap flash memory.
and $8000 to shoot DVCAM in 2009? Sony realized SD wasnt needed 2 years ago. To add that feature back now seems odd.
So cheaper SxS cards and batteries, but nearly $2000 more up front? Disappointing.

What do you mean? They are both full rater 1920x1080 cameras.

But DVCPRO HD is only 1280x1080 or 960x720 so any advantage that there might be by sampling the chroma at 4:2:2 over 4:2:0 is lost.
A better option would be to record to a Convergent Design NanoFlash. 1920x1080 4:2:2 Long GoP at up to 160Mb/s or I frame at 220 Mb/s (The same as the new HDCAM SR lite).

Is this camera better in low light conditions than the ex1?
Ruudstork 2 years ago
Yes it is around 1.5 stops more sensitive and has less noise so you can use more gain before the pictures become unusable.

I was hoping for 422 recording. I would have upgraded my ex1. Oh well, Scarlet with RED RAW is coming up next and it shoots 3k too at half the price.

But it's still vapourware. If you are making programmes now you can't wait forever before taking the plunge and buy a camera. If you need 4:2:2 stixk a NanoFlash on the back.
