thats because its based off of shoalin kung-fu, and like its predecessor, the martial art form is part of the meditation. there's more to the religion than just the martial art though, and you can study the martial art without being part of the religion (and vice versa)

Read in a martial arts' book called From Lee to Li that in Japan Shorinji Kempo is a registered religion.
