Tina McCorkindale, PR consultant for Gnosis Arts Media Group (http://gnosisarts.com), delivers a keynote address to Cambrian College public relations students, via videoconference on what the public relations practice of social media management means to businesses.
Tina McCorkindale (http://twitter.com/tmccorkindale) is an assistant professor in communication specializing in public relations at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC.Currently, she is the chair elect of the Educators Academy of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) and serves on the PRSA's National Research Committee. Her research focuses on social media, corporate reputation, and measurement
She begins by giving a definition of "social media PR" taken from Brian Solis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Solis), a well known and influential figure in Web 2.0 marketing and Internet communications. Solis emphasizes the democratic nature of social media, along with its "two-wayness" of communication (see http://gnosisarts.com/home/PR_Dictionary#twoway).
This videoconference address was given on November 25, 2011, to the Cambrian College eDome, during the PR department's 2011 LIFT Workshop (see https://www.facebook.com/pages/LIFT-Take-Your-Communications-to-the-Next-Leve...).
"LIFT" stands for "Linkedin, Facebook an Twitter" workshop and is an annual seminar held at Cambrian College that delves into the intersections between social media and public relations.
Gnosis Arts Media Group was invited to give the keynote address for the LIFT Workshop this year.
