If you went to the vita-chamber in ryan's office, you'll noticed it said it's turned off. basically, it means ryan didn't want to resurrect and wanted to die on his own terms.

@DevilsLunchbox they probly got it from Rosie The Riveter because they use a R-I-V-E-T G-U-N so yeah the big daddys are concidered he or it.

About the gender thing - they're called Rosies since they use a Rivet Gun.

well actually. it is said that there ARE genders within the big daddies and it happens that rosies are female. so yeh.

actually all big daddys have no sexuality they are often refered to as 'it' just because it is called rosie does not mean it is a she but the fact you are a man in bioshock 2 who is turned into a rosie (from what you see from gameplay) leads me to think that its all random.

for some reason my has been halved by fontaine, whilst his hp is still at the maximum, how come, and will my hp go back to normal?

you cant upgrade a wrench only add tonics to sorta mix plasmids to it

Named after the Rosie the Riveter - because they carry a rivet gun. The other type of Big Daddy is the Bouncer - they are the ones with the drills.
Rosies and Bouncers are both Big Daddies.
