Everything about The Hanging Tree is outstanding from the story to the actors and actresses to the music. It will stop you in your tracks. Movies like this aren't made anymore.

I love this song !!! And the movie..

Country music was so much better years ago when we had real men performing like Marty Robbins, Johnny Cash,Waylon Jennings and Sonny James.

So called country music today is sung by a bunch of panty-waisted Hollywood types who have never in their lives gone hungry or faced really hard times. The original guys were real men!!!

These are 2 of my favorites also. The Big Country is so good that I watch it every time it comes on TV. Burl Ives, Peck and I really likes Chuck Connors as a bad guy. He did great and it's my favorite role of his. They just don't make em like this any more!!

At first I didn't care for Gary Cooper. Like in High Noon. It wasn't one of my favorites. But the more I watched and got to know about this man i like him alot now. The Hanging Tree is probably one of my favorites. The Westerner was good too and the Lou Gherig story made me cry. Yeah, he was damn good.

That's right. They can't hold a candle to the real men and music that use to be. Sad!!

I clearly remembered how this movie ended. That woman gave up everything to save Cooper's life and it worked. A woman like that is worth more than gold or any other kind of currency and that is what the theme song of this movie is about.

There is a DVD of this movie out? I would like to find one. The Hanging Tree was written by a lady named Dorothy M. Johnson who lived in my homestate of Montana. The movie made it's world premiere in Miss Johnson's hometown of Missoula at the Fox Theatre (which is no longer standing) and there is a story of Miss Johnson in the latest issue of Montana magazine

Most people don't realize that the movie the "Hanging Tree" is without a doubt the finest western movie ever made in the United States and perhaps the world. It has great music, great story, great actors, great scenery, great photography. There could be one or two other westerns which nudge the Hanging Tree for the top spot such as the "Big Country" with Gregory Peck. This is movie making at its finest. It stands the test of time.
