One thing that does intrigue me is how C4's Sunday teatime American football ratings during English football's wilderness years compared to the ratings for live football on BBC1 & ITV earlier the same afternoons, because a book I have from the time says they were comparable. Of course, the NFL was up against the God slot.
Oh yes, the good old days of athletics from Gateshead, Wimbledon vs Coventry City, The UK Snooker Open and Benn vs Eubank, all of which actually had very good viewing figures. However, it also shows how ITV Sport has moved on.
