Singer and songwriter "TABU" can best be described as a breath of fresh air. Tabu's performances demonstrate versatility with a distinct vocal style that crosses all genres, from Jazz and R & B to Dance Hall, Reggae and Lover's Rock. Her unique ability to combine various musical styles into one is commendable. Tabu's latest project is a collection of songs put to smooth reggae, jazz and R& B beats. Her latest CD entitled "Secret Tabu was released on the Flynn and Flynn record label. Tabu's interest in music began at the early age of ten. She was born Lori Ann Levy, in Hartford, Connecticut and grew up in Enfield, Connecticut. Her older brother was a DJ and Tabu spent a lot of time with him listening to the latest music. She found that she enjoyed listening, but singing brought her so much more enjoyment. Her father played the guitar, her mother played piano and music seemed to be "in the genes" as they say. She began her professional career in music over ten years ago. Tabu began playing the flute, writing lyrics and music and found herself driven by a force beyond her upon entering her teens. She focused on vocal training, while taking advantage of every opportunity to sing. Tabu competed in the Connecticut, Miss Sportsmen Pageant in which she demonstrated style, poise and grace, but all who attended were particularly impressed with her rendition of "Home" from "The Wiz". She brought home the winning trophy. As a result of that exposure she was asked to become one of two lead singers with the Rhythm Force Band, a popular reggae band in the northeast at that time. Tabu released two singles with the group. The first written by Tabu, entitled "Let's Start Something New" and a remake of Jodey Watley's "Lookin' for A New Love" on the Rhythm Force label. She toured with various bands in the northeast performing everything from studio-one style to dance hall. Reggae was just the beginning for the sultry songstress. She was determined to explore a variety of musical styles as well as develop her talents within the music industry. R & B, Pop and Jazz all played pivotal roles in shaping the well rounded singer. Tabu continued to sing with various bands opening for performers such as Yellowman, Beres Hammond, Marcia Griffiths, Jose Wales, Supercat, Sugar Minot, Frankie Paul, Lavert, the O'Jays, and Crystal Gayle. She has performed, written and released original works in all genres over the years. Composing and arranging her material, as well as material for other singers became part of her . This allowed her to express a full range of creativity In the past, her distinctive style and range as lead and background vocalist has complimented bands in the reggae, jazz and pop industry. And with the debut solo release she now has a chance to do it her way. With talent comes passion. Passion and a burning desire are the driving forces behind any success. This multi-talented songstress has both, and singing songs and writing and composing songs about life's journeys and poetic songs of love are truly her passion and it shows. Sit back relax and enjoy this refreshing sample of "Secret Tabu"
