Part 12 of 12.

From Book TV:

About the Program
From the City University of New York, authors George Galloway and Christopher Hitchens debate the war in Iraq. George Galloway, opposed to the Iraq War, is a member of the British Parliment and the author of "Mr. Galloway Goes to Washington: The Brit Who Set Congress Straight About Iraq." The book tells the story of his recent appearance before the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations, where he verbally attacked U.S. Senators while responding to charges related to Iraq's oil-for-food program. Christopher Hitchens, in favor of the Iraq War, is the author of "Love, Poverty, and War: Journeys and Essays" and "Blood, Class and Empire: The Enduring Anglo-American Relationship." "Democracy Now!" radio host Amy Goodman moderates. She is the author of "The Exception to the Rulers: Exposing Oily Politicians, War Profiteers, and the Media That Love Them."

About the Author
George Galloway is the Respect Party's Member of Parliament for Bethnal Green and Bow in London. He won the seat after his expulsion from the Labour Party for his opposition to the Iraq War. Christopher Hitchens is a contributing editor to Vanity Fair and a visiting professor of liberal studies at the New School in New York.

  • @ghadnaz I'd like to remind you that when Hitchens brought up Galloway's meeting with Saddam, GG promptly said Hitchens was lying, and nothing but a liar! If you want to talk about humiliation, lets talk about the people who actually fell for GGs demagoguery and pseudo-logical rhetoric.

  • @ghadnaz more importantly, instead of just saying mean things about Galloway, I can back it up with CITATION. Don't take it from me, take it from the windbags mouth himself.

  • well, looks like hitchens got his butt handed to him ..LOL

  • Iraq war is indeed a true blunder. An international crime led by the big 3, US, BRITAIN AND ISRAEL AGAINST HUMANITY.

  • @weejockpoopongmcplop abso-fucking-lutely........they both love the fact that they can craft responses. Nothing more. I even get the feeling Hitchens' mind-changing (1991-2003) was just a game to see if he could pull it off convincingly.

  • Interesting debate. However, I think many of the commenters have followed the speakers into forgetting the issues at hand and focussing instead on argumentative ability.

Making a good case for something does not necessarily mean you are right.

  • five years later and it much harder to argue the war was a blunder. just because the war should be been conducted more strategically doesn't say anything about the fundamental justness of the war

  • Of course it was to steal the natural resources of weaker countries. Frankly there is no problem with that. It's always been that way in the history of humankind and always will be. In the end of the day, it's all about who has the best weapons.

  • Hitchens is confused with the iraq war and liberating iraq as if they were the same thing ignoring history. Is he this ignorant of the fact he admits he doesn't support the war strategy, but does support taking advantage of the aftermath and doing some good in the mist of corruption. Like a religious fanatic he stubbornly confuses the 2 agendas.

  • @ghadnaz Agreed!
