Bob White, West Virginia resident Maria Gunnoe, an organizer with the Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition, won the 2009 Goldman Environmental Prize for North America. Rock Creek, West Virginia resident Julia Judy Bonds won the Prize in 2003.

Both women won the Prize for their grassroots leadership and courageous work to end mountaintop removal coal mining and improve the lives of coalfield residents.

  • only 5% of sites have been reclaimed...the coal industry has no dog in this fight...only thriving through ignorance...find the facts...then your comments will be valid.

  • people like this make me angry they never show pitcures of reclaimed strip mines she lives here in wv and is trying to stop moutain top removal and stop the coal industry this will ruin the state economy if people like this are successful we will lose 34 billion dollars in revenue for the state and we dont have enough tourism here to cover that loss
