He is so nice and charming as is his sublime art. Great post, thanks.

Yes, such footage of Grumiaux is fairly rare, and it is uncommon generally I think to have older footage such as this of musicians discussing their genesis. It would be good to have the remainder of the interview, as you say, but I'm thankful for this bit.

Hell yes, Rolf, I'd be interested! Maybe you have footage of his Berg Violinconcerto, too? Most probably the best rendition of that piece. Arguably along with the Mitropoulos/Krasner one. (Which I don't have, too bad.) I like G.'s Bach and chamber music very much, too.
Ook groetjes uit het kikkerlandje, van L.

can someone who speaks French please add some subtitles to this? I would enjoy knoing what he is saying!
When he was a child, Grumiaux used to pretend to play violin while his grandfather was giving a violin lesson. His grandfather realised Grumiaux could "differentiate" a semi brief, a minim and a crotchet and taught him the notes. One day Grumiaux heard the bell of the church. He asked his grandfather if he knew which notes the bells were ringing? The grandfather said no and asked: Dou YOU know? Grumiaux said: Yes!
The grandfather realised Grumiaux had the perfect pitch and taught him violin.
