TRiO Upward Bound of Bloomsburg University partnered with United Water of Pennsylvania, the Fishing Creek Watershed Association and United Water customers to preserve the environment at three locations along the banks of Fishing Creek, near Bloomsburg, on Saturday, July 11, 2009.
Forty-seven high school students from TRiO Upward Bound at Bloomsburg University participated as part of their third annual Service Day, along with members of the Fishing Creek Watershed Association, United Waters Bloomsburg Operation Customer Advisory Council and 14 faculty and staff members from TRiO Upward Bound. The project was organized by the council, whose members include 15 residential, commercial and industrial United Water Pennsylvania customers and Jennifer Cughan, academic coordinator, TRiO Upward Bound.
The largest group of volunteers was stationed at Kocher Memorial Park, near Lightstreet. The volunteers joined members of the Fishing Creek Watershed Association to assist with ongoing beautification that included seeding and mulching a newly restored creek bank. They also placed drought-resistant plants in a nature garden.
Two other groups were positioned between Boones Dam and the Rupert Covered Bridge at the confluence of Fishing Creek and the Susquehanna River to collect debris. The Town of Bloomsburg assisted with the collection of recyclable items.
I was there! =D What a fun day!
