  • @yandrsupreme Indeed! Interesting to note the "EE" in "believe me-EE-ee" is the same note as the "YOU" in the overdubbed "YOU don't have to..." so she managed to reach the note at least once before her voice falters. She was prone to laryngitis throughout her career and was fighting a cold around this time that caused weeks worth of gigs to be cancelled, so all factors considered she gets four stars for effort here! I would have liked to hear the apparent bad note without overdubs, but oh well.

  • This Is Such A Treasure Of A find, Thanks For Sharing It With Us All .

  • @GiuseppePascuale928 Thanks for the info!!! It sounds like they dubbed the original broadcast. Of course, it's possible that they dubbed it due to an audio dropout, but considering it was the highest note in the song, it was more than likely her voice.

  • @yandrsupreme I watched this clip on the official DVD and it indeed contains the same vocal dub so perhaps her voice did fail on that particular note and they wanted to clean it up for broadcast.

  • How wonderful to see this. Thank you so much for sharing! xo

  • @yandrsupreme This clip features on her upcoming boxed set Goin' Back: The Definitive Dusty Springfield so we shall see if the same audio effect appears there. If so, it will only enhance the whole "tragic diva" appeal of Dusty's "lost years" for me. Emotionally this was a fragile time for her and clearly she is a bit... erm, shall we say "glazed" here, but even though her vocal has rasp around the edges and every high note wasn't perfect, this brief performance is oozing with emotion and soul!

  • @GiuseppePascuale928 I wasn't sure if it was in the original tape, or I wondered if the uploader might have done it to cover an audio dropout or something, old TV show tapes can sometimes have an audio dropout.

  • Thanks for this Cor - been hoping someone would put Stepping Out With My Baby on. Wend

  • @yandrsupreme I wondered the same thing. She is in slightly hoarse voice here so perhaps her voice cracked and they dubbed it with the studio vocal.

  • At 10:11.... there is a couple seconds of the audio from the record, was that on the original show? Did her voice crack on that note or something?
