Pattern & GCode generated with my free software "DXF Halftone 2.0", available here:

Finished artwork:

The material is melamine chipboard. I had to use screws for hold down as the surface is very slippery.

  • Hi, first of all thanks for making such a great GPL software! I'm having a blast with it.

I'm having problems with Artcam 2009 when generating DFX's with more than 9000 or so holes: I can't open the saved .art file, Artcam just closes if I try. I can save toolpaths and work with them, but it sure would be nice to be able to save the Artcam file. Has this happened to you?

BTW, I plan on uploading some halftone engraving videos soon :D

    Thanks!

  • @Walkifer I just tested it and there seems to be a problem at least in version 2008 SP3. I use artcam just to make the toolpaths for cutout.

  • I don't know if you understand me. When I open the program, I only can see the screen of preview, not the other where I change parameters.

If I use XP, I can change the resolution to 1024x768 and I can move the desk and use it without problem, but I can't with Windows 7.

Can you do something to change it?

    Thank you very much.

  • @jafc76 The windows are created at fixed positions on the screen, and with small resolution that seems to lead to a problem. You can right click on the taskbar and select "Cascade windows" to bring it to the screen.

  • Just a suggestion in case you're thinking on making a new version of your software: It would be great if it could export multiple DXF "tile" files from a single picture, to allow for really big, highly detailed multiboard halftones (e.g. a 1x1 mt picture made from four 50x50 cm boards with ~8000 holes each). They could even have a "wavy" shape at the edges for easier fit and to prevent the holes from being too close to the edges (in the case of 45º patterns). I'd buy a "pro" version right away.

  • @metalfusionf

    Damn :(

BTW, have you had any problems with Artcam in which an area clearance leaves a piece of material in the center if the tool's stepover is, say, 75% or more? (doesn't happen with 60% or less). It seems like a bug (my tool diameter settings are correct, so that's not the source of the problem).

Thanks for checking about the previous problem, It seems I'll just have to keep going straight to the toolpaths.

  • EXCELLENT program and video!

  • @jafc76 Get a second monitor man!!!!!

  • @metalfusionf I tried to do that but it doesn't work. For the next version, if you can change it for low resolution computers will be very good.

    Thank you for your help!

  • Hello,

My name is Juan and I downloaded your software, the first thing I wanna tell you is thank you for this software, is awesome!

I have a problem to use it. I'm using a netbook with a resolution of 1024x600 with windows 7 and when I open the program, I have two screens, one is the preview that I can see well and the other is the small where I can change the parameters and it's too down when I open it so it`s outside of my desk and I can't move it or change parameters.
