Its as if Cliburn was playing with the maestro by his side, awe inspiring!

gmkline, the only performance I've ever heard that might convey a little bit more of the emotional "heart" of Beethoven's fifth is Artur Schnabel with Frederick Stock conducting the Chicago Symphony. But that and this are all you ever need "own". I am so elated in hearing this. Thank you YouTube and all you wonderful people.

I agree. This is the very best.
My father owned the record with this recording since I was a child and I had it a few years in my possession. But I threw it away when the many scratches destroyed any opportunity of listening.
Been searching for years and years, and now I found Cliburn again!!!
Thanks to youtube, and very many thanks to you!

I have this record (it's somewhat worn out). As far as I'm concerned, it is reference standard. If anyone out there knows of a better recording, please tell me about it. I know a lot of them: Serkin, Gould, Horowitz, Rubenstein, Janis ...
Tell me about it.
