The Council of Europe -- Europe's leading human rights organisation - has decided it is time it stopped. It has launched a campaign in its member countries to criminalise domestic violence, ensure support for victims and foster new attitudes.

Domestic violence has been illegal for well over a century in the UK. We don't need MEPs from other European countries or the unelected European Commission to tell us how to behave. What a totalitarian, undemocratic disgrace the European Union is.

@gobwois well not only are women simply "not always the victims". there is heaps of data that show women are almost, as much, and even more likely to strke out first and not in self-defence.

But thankyou, I agree. Where's all the videos about stopping violence against everyone in intimate relationships (and everywhere else preferably)? It's actually quite disgusting and unacceptable the sole focus still on women almost all the time at this point in time in the 21st century.

@imyourhappydrug You seem to be missing my point. there are over 200 academic studies that show it is NOT the vast majority of cases where men are the perpetrators. In fact, the American Journal of Public Health in 2007 interviewed 11,000 men and women, and it revealed women are actually more likely to be both the perpetrator and more likely to initiate the violence. And this was not the first study to show that, just the largest and most recent.
