I think by "true black metal" people could be referring to what early Mayhem / Darkthrone sounds like. I still can hear plenty of black metal in this, though it is more atmospheric and melodic.

Hmm, I'm a long time extreme metal fan (mostly black metal) and I can't believe I've never checked these guys out more! This is f'en brilliant! I know this isn't 'true black metal' but to me it is. They've caught the pure essence of what Norwegian black metal should be like!
