Really a magic vibe.I've never noticed before but there is something a little odd going on the second time through the bridge. It's nothing too obvious just a tad "off".
Of course these were the days when they didn't fiddle around endlessly with the mix-they just went for good basically live performances with the emphasis on "soul" and excitement.
That has proven to be untrue. Testimony has it that he was backstage at a place balled Big Momma's Roadhouse, waving a .22 caliber pistol at some women. He pointed it at one and said, "Don't worry, it's not loaded" and then pointed it at his temple and "Bang" he killed himself on Christmas Day 1955.
I always liked Johnny Ace. I had bought his records back in the day. But, the vinyl pressings were never free of noise - especially the memorial LP. Recently I downloaded the digital version of the album, and it is like hearing it for the first time. The band and arrangements are really first rate. He was a fine big band style blues singer as well as balladeer. He actually had a bit of Big Joe Williams in him. He was an amazing talent.
He sings this and all of his songs with the greatest feeling that you would think he is singing it especially for your occassion.I grew up on Johnny Ace music and heard about the Russian roullette game.. I loved his Music.
My dad had a Johnny Ace 45 on the wall in the house we grew up in. As a kid I never liked these oldies. But now that I am older than my dad was then, I've grown to love Johnny and his music. Just wish I had a kid to play this stuff for so they could pass it on to their kids (along with my Devo, Lewis Taylor and Boards of Canada tunes!)
Never heard this before but I like it too. I still like Pledging My Love better, but this is still really good.
