http://www.allotment-diary.co.uk Sorry about the wind noise.
Just a quick vid to show how easy it is to plant and grow Garlic.
Garlic doesn't need anything special, just a reasonable well drained rich soil.
You need to plant the Garlic cloves in the garden or the allotment early enough so that they get a good 2-3 weeks of very low temperatures which makes the clove split and grow into a bulb otherwise if you plant them too late they won't split and you'll just get a giant single clove.Other than that it's just a matter of pushing a single clove about 1 inch deep into the soil and basically forgetting about it.
Come August the leaves will shrivel and wilt and then it's time to simply pull the bulb up.
Simple.

  • Thanks for the video.

Can we just use garlic bulbs from the super market, or do we need to buy an expensive variety suitable for our climate from a seed company?

    Kind regards, Stuart

  • @eatmoreraw Apart from supermarket bulbs perhaps not being a variety that is suited to our climate, the main worry is that you may introduce pests and diseases into your soil from uncertified seed.

They may be expensive to buy initially but then after that it's totally free as you can keep your own best grown bulbs for planting again the next year.

    Cheers,Dan.
