GARY LUCAS: PART 8 LIVE Knitting
Factory NYC
5-24-92
An intense, brooding reading of Gary Lucas' original composition
"Story Without Words" , which appeared in a Gods and Monsters band
version earlier that year with lyrics and a vocal melody by Jeff
Buckley. Normally played on his Gibson J-45, here Gary performs the
number on his '64 Strat as the final encore of his tribute saluting
his friends at the Downtown Music Gallery NYC.
Gary Lucas, selected as one of DownBeat's "66 Hot 6-Stringers"
alongside John McLaughlin, Richard Thompson and Pat Metheny, performs
solo in September 1998 on board the Motoship Stubnitz, a former East
German high-seas fishing vessel that is now a free-floating cultural
platform and arts performance space that docks at various European
cities each year to provide live art and music events
(www.stubnitz.com). Here Gary tears through a reading of "King
Strong", his deconstruction of Zappa's "King Kong", which appeared
originally on his first solo album "Skeleton at the Feast", now
available on iTunes and digital portals wordlwide.
