@samjarris Elaborating on that, it's a full theater set-up. Each part of the auditorium has to be built to a certain specification--seating, screen, walls, floor, ceiling, speaker layout, the whole works. It needs to be set up so that everything is balanced just right for the best sound quality.

As i found out from a theater tech at a local IMAX theater, THX is just a seating arrangment design. Dolby Digital is the actual sound system.
