  • This is a Starting point. The measurements are to get started. Phasing must be checked with a phase meter or a mono/null test. The kick mic can be straight in to the kick, or off to the side, again, the measurement is just a starting point.

  • The best video on the topic Glenn Johns Technique! Is there more from this guy?

  • @KaterFritz ..Hey , thanks man..Studio experimenting is kinda my thing...Yeah there is more...check out my other vids..thanks again

  • I hate to be a nerd

, but that's an equilateral triangle, not isosceles. An Isosceles triangle is one in which the square of the hypotinuse is the same as the sum of the square of the other two sides. That said, I'm trying this technique tomorrow. If it turns out well, I'll post a video. Thanks for the info.

  • I just got an awesome drum sound last few days at home on my tascam analog/ tape unit- close mic in kick, close mic on hi-hat and 2 matching, equally spaced condensers like he's done here. I have to say this Glyn Johns stuff is great but it does NOT mean you have to follow it like a religion, expand/ experiment a little, but the basic concept of capturing toms ( be sure to EQ - and cymbals w/ condnsers is great- 'always loved that lively sound ( versus close miking, gating the toms to death!).

  • Good Breakdown of the Glyn's technique. Thanks!

  • Great video! Would have liked to hear the results.

  • good stuff, any interviews of glyn himself talking about this himself. It seems hard to find...... thanks

  • What have I done?? Please stop yelling at me! *cower*

But honestly, thanks for explaining how simple this setup can be. I'm in love with that sound. :D

  • Great video!

  • I love this guy! He honestly should be the guys that are teaching at the schools! Hes straight to the point and no BS in between everystatement- perfect! makes watching an awesome video even more awesome!

  • Thanks for posting!

  • Just tested this set-up with a live gig. Limited to 8 channels of recording, so the fewer drum mics, the better. Worked perfectly.
