Got my copy of Andrea Chenier with Vartenissian and Jon Vickers from Opera
Lovers. Great sound. Recordings are almost like a time machine. We can
hear a performance almost 40 years old.
Vickers sounds great. Never thought he sounded like much on studio recordings, but I heard him w/ the Met in the 60s. One of those singers who sounds better
in the theater than on recordings. Same for Nicolai Gedda, Franco Corelli,
and Tito Gobbi (in my opinion).

Hi, I have a recording of Orfeo ed Euridice on the Andromeda label. It is from
the Met, 1955. The title roles are sung by Rise Stevens and Hilde
Guden.
Your aunt is supposed to be in the cast, but she is not listed. The sound
quality is fair.
Have you been to The Opera Lovers website (Canada)? Currently has a
recording of Adnrea Chenier w/ your aunt and Jon Vickers. I am ordering same.
Most of the stuff I've gotten from this site has been w/ excellent sound.

@sleylekian Thank you. My Aunt had a wonderful voice. Don Giovanni is available from celestialaudio in Australia and from Opera Depot in NYC - wonderful cast with Bacquier and Panerai. She had her career in Europe, starting with the 1958 Festival of Two Worlds in Spoleto. FYI, I have some photos of her on my Facebook - Salpie Leylekian.

An intelligent singer of the old
school, despite the hastened tempi

She is Armenian, pls..add in the tags ..so more Armenians can find out abt her...

Thank you! I will try it.

You're right about the tempo. Strange; this aria should be a lot more cryptic sounding than it does here. Listen to Te Kanewa's rendition. Blows me away.
Since you like her voice, you might want to watch her "Ah, che mi dice mai" which was posted yesterday.

Another excellent singer who made very few recordings. In the 50s she was
in the cast of Aida for RCA Victor/Book of the Month Club. She sang the
priestess. I think Lucine Amara sang the title role.
She also recorded the Verdi Requiem w/ Tullio Serafin. It is available on
the Testament label for about 50 bucks.
Thanks for the post.
