I don't honestly see any problem with karl and stuart not having protection. As David and derek said many time that they can't be killed by spirit. Some of the best evidence are scratches, bruises and cuts they get from paranormal encounters because you would not think they would cut and bleed each other for television.

I think Karl has been knocked down one too many times in the ring. The testosterone bullshit gets a little grating. Especially as he legs it whenever anything happens :)
