Played at the 2005 New Conservatory of Music (NCM) Festival held at UTSC
I played this piece in the Length of Study Category of 79 (competed against other students with around 79 months of study). I placed 1st in this category, however the judge was very generous.
Looking back Im not pleased with my performance. The piece is too fast, the middle pastoral section is a shade too fast, and I didnt play enough rubato (Chopin without Rubato is not Chopin!) And that pedal was horrendously loud!
This nocturne is one of Chopins more easy nocturnes. Other than the short cadenzas there is not much that is technically demanding. It is slightly more musically challenging and key usage of rubato and dynamics can make this a wonderful piece
I will be relearning this piece in the coming months so that I can play it properly and get some needed closure.
