The Value of Nothing

Logline: Two men have contrasting reactions when faced with losing their jobs.
Treatment: The Main Character, Blake, is well off and lives a lavish lifestyle whilst Ali, the contrasting
character, can hardly make ends meet.
Blake works as a manager in a big company. Ali is an employee in the same company. One day, the company goes bust and both are left jobless.
Blake not only losses his job but everything he owns. Blake cannot deal with this as he identifies himself with his job, wealth and social status. Nothing is left for him in this world so he decides to end his life.
Ali, on the other hand, does struggle initially but his positive outlook on life keeps him going so he returns to his small apartment looking to the future. This is brought about by Ali's simple belief that he lost his job and not his identity.
This story relates to the crisis that is faced by many people in the past few years owing to the recession.
