Just so everyone knows the external input is not designed to work with anything other than the Gakken Theramin so a stylophone won't function because the signal is not strong enough. The input seems to alter the pitch of the SX-150 depending on how loud the signal is so there is no easy way to sequence it via the Ext in. however if you have a CV sequencer then you can hook up the stylus tip to the output of your CV sequencer and as long as the output is grounded to a mixing desk it should work.

I think the problem with the External Source is that it is a MONO socket, plugging a Stereo cable into it will not make the correct connection. I just put my SX-150 together today and I haven't had time to test this yet but that's what it seems to be to me.

My ext in is not working either. And without being able to play something like a sequenced rhythm into this, it is essentially a therermin with an envelope filter on it. I am pretty disappointed. All the rave reviews I read and the thing does not really even work properly?
Does that not bother anyone? I don't care if it is $300 or $30. It is not really even functional as advertised.

Any solution for the external source now? I think I got a bad batch too...

Ok, I just tried this out with my Stylophone, Cable plugged securely into Stylophone and SX-150 = No sound. Cable plugged securely into SX-150 but half-way out of Stylophone = Working normally, no high gain amp needed.
