2 Nigerian Students Found Dead

KUALA LUMPUR: The two Nigerians found dead at a Cheras condominium, apparently due to a drug overdose, were from prominent families in Nigeria and had came here to further their studies in marketing and business information systems.

They also had no disciplinary records and were considered good students.

It was hard for those who knew them to believe that Olugboja Emmanuel Olawale, 22, and Abbas Alhaji, 24, had died of a drug overdose.

A housemate found the two University College Sedaya International (UCSI) students dead at their condominium unit in Taman Connaught on Wednesday morning.

Olugboja, better known as Emmanuel to his friends, was found lying on the bed while Abbas was sprawled under it.

Both were frothing in the mouth.

City CID chief Senior Asst Comm II Ku Chin Wah said substances recovered in their stomach and urine samples had been sent to the Chemistry Department for tests.

It is believed that the two had consumed syabu and that their lungs had collapsed.

When met at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital mortuary yesterday, a close friend of Emmanuel, who declined to be named, claimed she had known them well.

"Emmanuel used to help me with some of the fashion shows I organised.

"He modelled part-time to make some extra cash.

"They were decent boys who came from prominent families back in their country," she said, adding that she doubted they died from a drug overdose.

She believed they had suffered from food poisoning.

Emmanuel's mother is said to be a prominent politician while Abbas' father is a well-to-do businessman in the petroleum industry.

UCSI deputy vice-chancellor Ching Ping Kit said the university was working with the Nigerian embassy as well as with the students' families for the funeral arrangements.

Oh yeah Malaysian Media, where is your Ehtical Practice? The Police said, they believed the boys died of Drug overdose? where is the fact? Are you suppose to even make mention of that? Statement by the police outside court of proceedings are treated by the law in the same way as statement made by any other persons.
