Sub-genres are like political... though they do rediscover and contribute a new sound... Litterally the biggest reason why they seek a different name than dubstep/grime or garage for instance is because they seek to disosciate the music from those brands... Likewise a genre can be created (usually by labels or a group of influencial patrons of the industry) to rebrand an existing sound...Like Aquacrunk is now being called Eletcronic Trap Music (ETM?)..
