50-year-old Lamar Sepulveda has spent the past week swimming, biking and running his way 428.6 miles from Venice, CA to Tempe, AZ, where on Sunday April 14th he competed in the 140.6-mile Ironman Arizona - all to benefit the Children¹s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) Cancer Institute, where his son Nick was treated for
leukemia.
Lamar¹s 569.2-mile state-to-state double triathlon is one of the focal
points of a year-long charity initiative he created: The "Pay It Forward" Challenge

When Nick became ill in 1984, CHOC found the means to fund Nick¹s cancer treatment. Nick is now cancer-free. Grateful for Nick¹s full recovery and productive life, Lamar created The "Pay It Forward" Challenge to raise funds and awareness for CHOC so that other families with seriously ill children will find the help they need. A passionate advocate for the life-changing value of endurance sports, Lamar pushed himself to his limits to inspire others to live healthy lives and to become ambassadors for CHOC.
100% of the funds raised go directly to the CHOC Foundation. All of the Challenge¹s expenses and support activities were donated by friends and family, individually or through their businesses.
Lamar¹s fundraising goal is $56,920 or more ($100 for every mile he swam, biked or ran this week.). He¹s calculated that if 2,846 people each give $20, we would reach our $56,920 goal.
