Exactly, you can also go to the store and download wireless tether if you can't get the one on your factory phone to work. I know Verizon wants you to sign up and pay before the feature will even work. Sprints feature will work without signing up

Yes you can use a router that doesn't need to be connected to the internet

You need to update iTunes and or your iPad software to the current version to get the mirroring icon to display

If AirPlay is available, not necessarily connected, it will show up when in pictures and music. If you hit the home button twice quickly and swipe at the bottom to the right it will also show up but only if AirPlay is available. If you are connected to AirPlay, the icon will always be in the upper right corner to let you know that you are connected

this is an ipad 2- however I believe it still applies for the Ipad 1. Please note that if you cant access the hotspot on your phone they have several apps available on the android market that can be downloaded and also in windows marketplace

I guess the iPhone doesn't let yo set up the hotspot like this - at least I couldn't get it. The hotspot button is not functional when I turn on airplane mode. - Bummer!

I'm following along here, I get to right at the 5:20 mark (airplay) i scroll across and bring up the airplay tab, check the apple TV but I don't get the "mirror" option? Any suggestions?
