What's up gamers, Andrea Rene here for Clevver Games and rumor has it, that Microsoft is finally getting rid of Microsoft Points! According to Inside Mobile Apps, a source at the company said Microsoft Points will be phased out by the end of 2012.
.
The virtual currency system used by Microsoft will affect not only Xbox Live purchases, but also developers for the Windows Phone and the Zune Marketplace. By the end of the year, all transactions will be based on the region set on the purchasing account, using real dollars instead of points.
.
It appears as though this shift is happening primarily because of the Windows Phone Marketplace. Using real currency instead of points would put it on par with Microsoft's competitors, Apple's App Store and the Android Market.
.
According to the story, "Mobile developers that have publishing agreements with Microsoft are being warned to plan their upcoming downloadable content and in-app purchases in accordance with the change. Customers with existing Microsoft Point balances will have them converted into their local currency after the switch."
.
Microsoft has not officially commented but I for one would LOVE to see this change happen. I mean, seriously, how silly is it to have everything in points anyway? You always are a few short or have too many left over. What do you guys think about it? Ready to see the points go away? Let me know in a comment below. I'll keep you updated once I get more info so make sure to hit subscribe to not miss any news. I'm Andrea Rene and thanks for watching Clevver Games.

how is having too many microsoft points left over a bad thing?

@kain161718 it isn't bad, just a little annoying that I paid for them and didn't use them. I find myself buying random avatar items just to spend the points.
